What we check

Six things that decide if a page gets cited.

AI engines extract discrete, well-structured claims from pages they can reach and trust. The checker scores the signals that gate each step, and whether agents can complete tasks once they arrive.

01 · Crawl access

Whether AI and search crawlers (GPTBot, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Googlebot, Bingbot) can reach the page, the response is fast, and the content is in the initial HTML rather than rendered only by JavaScript.

02 · Structured data

Valid JSON-LD, an Organization or WebSite entity, and the right page-type schema (Article, FAQ, HowTo, Product) so engines can parse what the page is about.

03 · Meta and head

Title tag, meta description, canonical URL, Open Graph tags, and a declared language. The signals that frame how the page is summarized.

04 · Content structure

One clear H1, question-style headings, lists and tables, a key-takeaways block, and enough depth. This is what AI engines actually lift into answers.

05 · Authority and freshness

A named author and machine-readable dates. Named sources get cited more, and Gemini and Perplexity weight recency heavily.

06 · Agent completion

Whether AI agents can complete transactional flows on the page: booking, contact, purchase. Flags the failure modes that break automated flows: non-semantic buttons (agents navigate the accessibility tree, not visual layout), unlabeled form inputs agents cannot fill, CAPTCHA scripts that halt completion, consent overlays that block page access, and sign-in gates that prevent content retrieval.

FAQ

AEO, answered.

What is AEO?

AEO stands for Answer Engine Optimization. It is the practice of structuring a web page so AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot, Grok, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, and DeepSeek can find it, parse it, and cite it in their responses. It overlaps heavily with GEO, or Generative Engine Optimization.

How does the AEO checker work?

The checker fetches the page and scores public on-page signals across six categories: crawl access, structured data, meta tags, content structure, authority and freshness, and agent completion. It returns a 0 to 100 readiness score and a ranked list of fixes. It reads only what is publicly available and stores no data.

What is the agent completion check?

As AI moves from citing content to completing transactions (booking appointments, submitting forms, making purchases), the failure modes shift. The agent completion check flags the signals that block agentic flows: non-semantic buttons that agents cannot click (they navigate the accessibility tree, not the visual layout), unlabeled form inputs they cannot fill, CAPTCHA scripts that halt automated completion, consent overlays that block page access, and sign-in gates that prevent content retrieval.

Does a high score guarantee a brand gets cited?

No. A high score means the page is technically ready to be cited. Whether an engine actually cites a brand also depends on its authority, off-site presence, and how its content compares to competitors for a given query. This tool measures on-page readiness, not live citation.

What is the difference between this and the Zumi platform?

This free checker scans one page's on-page signals. The Zumi platform queries the AI engines directly and shows a brand's live AI Visibility across every engine, the exact prompts where it appears or does not, and how competitors rank against it.

Which AI engines does this matter for?

The same readiness signals apply across the AI engines Zumi tracks: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Copilot, Grok, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, and DeepSeek. They all retrieve and extract from web pages, so clean structure, valid schema, and crawler access help across all of them.

Now see the real AI visibility.

On-page readiness makes a page eligible. Zumi shows what actually happens: live AI Visibility across every engine, the prompts where competitors win, and what to fix first. Book a working session with live data.
